Days in each month

31 days: January, March, May, July, August, October, December. 30 days: April, June, September, November. February: 28, or 29 in leap years such as 2028.

Two ways to remember

The rhyme: “Thirty days hath September, April, June and November; all the rest have thirty-one, except February alone.” The knuckle trick: make two fists and count months across your knuckles and the gaps between them. Knuckles are 31-day months; gaps are 30 (or February). July and August are both knuckles because you jump from the last knuckle of one hand to the first of the other.

Average month length

Finance and payroll sometimes use a 30-day month (the 30/360 convention) for interest calculations, and some planners use 4.35 weeks per month (52.18 ÷ 12). Neither matches any real month exactly, which is why monthly and weekly figures don’t convert with a simple ×4.
