Business days between two dates

Quick answer: Business days are the weekdays (Monday to Friday) between two dates, minus any public holidays you exclude. Example: November 2026 has 21 weekdays; removing the federal holidays Veterans Day (November 11) and Thanksgiving (November 26) leaves 19 business days. Choose whether to count the start and end dates.

Counts Monday–Friday. Tick the box to also skip US federal holidays on their observed dates.

Which holidays are excluded?

The 11 federal holidays in 5 U.S.C. 6103: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday before is skipped; on a Sunday, the Monday after. State and company holidays are not included.

Worked example

From Monday, November 23, 2026 to Monday, December 7, 2026 there are 10 weekdays. Thanksgiving falls on November 26, so excluding federal holidays leaves 9 business days. The start date is counted and the end date is not, which is how most "within 10 business days" deadlines are read; check your contract if a deadline matters.

Common uses

Shipping estimates, bank transfer times, notice periods and legal or HR deadlines are usually stated in business days. Stock trades in the US settle one business day after the trade (T+1) since May 2024.
